Money Madness V 1.0 Money Madness is a fun, and often challenging, game in which 1 or 2 students compete in a board style game environment. They are sent around the board in a random manner, as determined by the throw of electronic dice, and visit shops where they must figure their total bill or figure their correct change. Answering the problems correctly gains the students some money. Incorrect answers costs them a bit. Some spots on the board are bonus rooms where lucky students are given some cash just for showing up. One room has the lottery where a very lucky student could win big. STARTING THE GAME The game is started by entering MONEYMAD at the DOS prompt. PLAYING THE GAME The first thing you will be asked is how many players are there. In the shareware version, this can be no more than 2 (the registered version allows up to 4.) Next, each player will be asked to enter their name so the computer knows who it is talking to at any given time. Now, you will be asked if you wish to include ADDITION, SUBTRACTION, and MULTIPLICATION problems. Answer Y or N for each. NOTE - at least one must be answered Y. Once the questions have been answered, the board screen will be displayed. All players start in the upper left corner, called the bank, and all start with a balance of $5.00. Each time a student lands on or rounds the bank, they are given another $5.00. The first player is presented with a message asking them to press ENTER to roll the dice. The computer will then automatically move that player's piece the appropriate distance and, if they land on a shop, the player will be presented with a problem to solve. The type of problem depends on how the game was started. They will be prompted for the answer. This will always be in the form of X.XX or XX.XX (dollars.cents) If the entered answer is correct, the player is given a message and awarded some money. If the answer is wrong, they are given the correct answer and a little money is deducted from their balance (NOTE - you always get more for a right answer than you lose for a wrong one.) Some rooms are BONUS rooms where the player gets some money just for showing up. The LOTTERY room is where the player has a chance to win some extra money. They will be prompted to enter 3 numbers from 1 to 9 (all 3 must be differnt) and then the program randomly selects 3 numbers. If the player matches 1 number, they win 3rd place and a little money. If they match 2 numbers, they win 2nd place and win some more money. If they match all 3 they win 1st place and get a bunch of money (not enough to win the game in one shot, but it's better than nothing.) Game play continues around the board until one of the players reaches the amount of money needed to win. In the shareware version, this is pre-set to $100 and cannot be changed (the registered version allows you to set this to whatever you want.) Once a player wins, they are returned to the first screen so the game can be restarted (in the registered version, the winner's score is compared to the Hall of Fame and, if high enough, would be entered there and saved.) You may press ESC at any time to exit to DOS.
